Low Wood Bay on Windermere named best spa in the North West

There are few better places to unwind than beside Windermere, and the Spa at Low Wood Bay has made a habit of proving it. In 2025 the resort was named the best spa in North West England by the Good Spa Guide, one of the most respected names in the industry.

The award was presented at the guide's 2025 regional ceremony in London, where Low Wood Bay beat strong competition from a host of leading spas across the region. Judges praised its calm spaces and its views across the lake and fells.

Importantly, this was not a popularity contest. The Good Spa Guide's Best Spa in the North West award is based on the organisation's detailed bubble-rating assessments, combined with expert insight from its anonymous spa spies. Finalists are chosen through rigorous appraisal rather than a public vote.

Low Wood Bay has a long track record with the guide. It was the first spa in the region to achieve the top Five Bubble Luxury rating, and it has again been awarded that rating this year.

The recognition follows serious investment. The team at Low Wood Bay Resort and Spa completed a £500,000 project to extend the spa's indoor and outdoor facilities, adding an outdoor balcony, new lounge space and extra treatment rooms. The redesigned spa was unveiled to guests on the shores of Windermere.

The resort, part of the English Lakes Hotels group, continues to attract attention. It has been featured in the top 10 per cent of listings worldwide in the Tripadvisor Travellers' Choice Awards for 2026, and it has been nominated as Best Resort Spa and Best Spa in the North West in the Spa Awards 2026.

What brings people back, though, is the setting. Spending a few hours looking out over the water from a warm pool or a quiet lounge is a reminder of why the Lake District has drawn people in search of rest for so long.

Spa days, treatments and overnight spa breaks can be booked through the English Lakes Hotels website, where the latest packages at Low Wood Bay are listed.
