L'Enclume in Cartmel keeps its three Michelin stars and Green Star

Cartmel is a small village with a medieval priory, a racecourse and a famous sticky toffee pudding. It is also home to one of the most celebrated restaurants in the world, and in 2026 L'Enclume confirmed that status once again.
At the Michelin Guide 2026 Great Britain and Ireland awards, Simon Rogan's flagship restaurant retained its three Michelin stars and its Michelin Green Star. The restaurant shared the news alongside confirmation that all of the group's UK restaurants had kept their stars.
L'Enclume first reached the very top of the guide in 2022. Great British Chefs noted at the time that Simon Rogan became just the fifth English chef to gain three stars, and that L'Enclume became the first three-starred restaurant outside London and Bray in Michelin history.
The restaurant has held its position ever since, keeping its three stars and Green Star at the 2025 ceremony and again in 2026. The Green Star is Michelin's recognition of restaurants leading the way on sustainable gastronomy.
International recognition has followed. La Liste, the global restaurant ranking, placed L'Enclume joint first in 2024, and the restaurant now cites a ranking of second in the world in La Liste 2026. For a restaurant in a small village on the edge of Morecambe Bay, it is a remarkable record.
The appeal lies in a deep sense of place. The cooking draws on the farmland, coast and fells of the southern Lake District, turning local ingredients into a long tasting menu that changes with the seasons. Visit Lake District describes it as one of the region's defining food experiences.
L'Enclume's success has also helped put Cartmel firmly on the culinary map, drawing visitors who might otherwise never find their way to this corner of Cumbria and supporting a wider community of local producers and suppliers.
L'Enclume is in the centre of Cartmel, a short drive from Grange-over-Sands. Reservations are released online and tend to be in high demand, so it is worth checking the restaurant's website well in advance of your planned visit.
