Fultons Lakes Jewellery Works crafts fine jewellery in a Keswick workshop

Many jewellery shops sell beautiful things. Fewer let you see them being made. At Fultons Lakes Jewellery Works in Keswick, the workshop is part of the experience, and every piece on display has been handcrafted on site.
The business is family-run and, by its own account, has been making fine jewellery for more than 30 years. Its story begins with founder Brian Fulton, who started designing and making jewellery in Manchester in 1982 while he was at college.
He relocated to the Lake District in 2004, bringing his craft to one of England's most popular market towns. The workshop moved to its present location, off Bell Close car park in Keswick, in 2017.
What sets Fultons apart is the openness of the process. Customers can watch jewellery being made on display screens, giving a rare insight into the skill and patience that goes into each ring, pendant or pair of earrings.
The workshop handles a wide range of commissions. Bespoke design is a big part of the work, as are repairs and the redesign of heirloom pieces, giving treasured but tired jewellery a new lease of life. It is a service that matters to many families, turning a ring or brooch that has sat in a drawer for years into something that can be worn and enjoyed every day.
Wedding rings are another speciality. Couples can work with the team to design their own rings, a personal touch that suits the many people who choose the Lake District as the backdrop to their relationship.
Fultons has been recognised in the trade press too. Jewellery Focus has featured the business, and Brian Fulton's work has appeared through IP Goldsmiths, reflecting a reputation that reaches beyond Keswick.
For visitors, it makes a memorable stop on a day in town: somewhere to watch a craft in action and, perhaps, to find something to take home that was made just a few metres away.
The workshop is closed on Sundays and advises phoning ahead for bespoke consultations, and details can be found on the Fultons listing on Visit Lake District.
